I’m sorry in advance for the depressive black and white photos in the post but these are just pictures I took for one of my uni projects…

London. City so different that I find it extremely difficult to even start to write about it. Let’s just start.

It’s quite hard to believe that you’re actually in one of the biggest cities in the whole wide world while being here. So, obviously, there is so much to visit, to see and experience that you might get lost with all of that. I tried to sort out the most popular and worth seeing places when you’re visiting London just for a few days. If you’re staying here longer – dig deeper then, as there is so many different worlds in here that noone counted them all.

Londyn. Miasto tak bardzo inne, że niesamowicie trudno jest mi jakoś napisać ten post. Po prostu zacznijmy. Będąc tu, ciężko jest uwierzyć, ze znajduje się tak naprawdę w jednym z największych miast na całym, szerokim świecie. Więc, oczywiście, jest tu mnóstwo miejsc do zobaczenia i rzeczy do doświadczenia oraz można się w tym nieco pogubić. Spróbowałam wybrać te najbardziej popularne i warte zobaczenia miejsca jeśli przyjeżdżacie do Londynu tylko na kilka dni. Jeśli jednak zostajecie na dłużej – kopcie głębiej, ponieważ Londyn skrywa w sobie tyle światów, że nikt ich jeszcze nie zliczył.

1. City

City is the smallest district in London and it’s located right in the center. The most exciting thing here? Architecture, because it’s here where almost all of the most famous buildings in London are located – Gherkin is just one of them, mate. London’s architecture has great influence on the world’s architecture in general because of it’s variety – from high glass skyscrapers, following by traditional stone and brick churches and bars, modernism to raw brutalism. Walking through City is like truly experiencing and seeing the history of architecture. That’s why it’s worth to come here and see it. And everything is within walking distance.

City jest najmniejszą dzielnicą w Londynie i jest położona dokładnie w centrum. Najbardziej ekscytująca rzecz tutaj? Architektura, ponieważ to tu stoją prawie wszystkie najbardziej znane budynki Londynu – Ogór jest tylko jednym z nich. Architektura Londynu ma duży wpływ na architekturę w ogóle ponieważ jest tak bardzo zróżnicowana – od wysokich, szklanych drapaczy chmur, przez tradycyjne kościoły i bary zbudowane z kamienia i cegły, modernizm, do surowego brutalizmu. Spacer przez City jest jak doświadczanie historii architektury na własnych oczach. Dlatego warto się tam wybrać i to wszystko zobaczyć.

Odbicia na najbardziej popularnym ogórku w Londynie są niesamowite. Prawdziwa sztuka.

Lloyd’s building

Lloyd’s building is my favorite building in City. And it’s one of a kind. The architect – Richard Rogers – literally showed the guts of the building. We can say it was built inside-out  – what was supposed to be inside the building and inside the walls is actually outside. The effect? It looks like some kind of spaceship. And let’s be honest – it’s cool.

Budynek Lloyd’s jest zdecydowanie moim ulubionym w City. I jedyny w swoim rodzaju. Architekt – Richard Rogers – dosłownie pokazał wnętrzności budynku. Można powiedzieć, ze został on wywrócony na lewą stronę – to co miało być w środku ścian i w środku w ogóle jest na zewnątrz. Efekt? Wygląda w pewnym sensie jak statek kosmiczny i umówmy się – jest super.

Barbican

Who is a lover of brutalism, visiting Barbican will be a place where dreams come true. Pure, raw concrete. What I like the most here is how the nature is fitted – it’s definitely an important  element in this brutal picture. Nevertheless, the place is a bit overwhelming, in my opinion. Yet, is very rich in artistic life with regular exhibitions and one of the best concert halls in London.

Dla miłośników brutalizmu, Barbican jest miejscem, gdzie sny się spełniają. Czysty, surowy beton. Co lubię tu najbardziej to to, jak natura jest dopasowana – jest zdecydowanie ważnym elementem w tym brutalnym obrazku. Niemniej jednak miejsce to jest trochę przytłaczające, według mnie. Lecz bardzo żywe w sztukę, dzięki regularnym wystawom i jednej z najlepszych sal koncertowych w Londynie.

 

2. Museums

Now this is one of the best things in here – all of the museums are for free. And this is why everyone should visit them – National Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Natural History Museum, Museum of Science, V&A…

My favorite? Definitely Natural History Museum. Everything is presented in interesting way, from the beginning till the very end. But it’s huge so take into account spending the half of day in there. But when it comes to art? Definitely Tate Modern.

~Muzea. To jest jednak z najlepszych rzeczy tutaj – wszystkie muzea są darmowe. Dlatego każdy powinien je zwiedzić – National Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Natural History Museum, Museum of Science, V&A… Moje ulubione? Zdecydowanie Muzeum Historii Naturalnej (Natural History Museum). Wszystko jest przedstawione w bardzo interesujący sposób, od początku do końca. Jednak jest bardzo wielkie, więc trzeba poświęcić połowę dnia na jego zwiedzanie. Ale jeśli chodzi o sztukę? Zdecydowanie Tate Modern.

And this place is amazing also because of one thing – if you’re tired of walking and experiencing art, 10th floor is waiting for you with it’s views.

To miejsce jest niesamowite ze względu na jedną jeszcze rzecz – jeśli jesteście zmęczeni chodzeniem i doświadczaniem sztuki, 10te piętro czeka na was wraz z widokami.

3. Canary Wharf

It’s the second place in London full of skyscrapers, but it’s way smaller. Yet, Canary Wharf is truly worth seeing not only because of them but also because of the fact that it’s actually a dock. Very famous and ordered dock and when I write ordered I really mean it. The whole space is private and it’s cleaned with huge precision all the time. And despite the fact that it’s a bit awful to say that but you also won’t find any homeless people wandering there, due to the same fact – cleanliness… yup, apparently. That’s why there is quite a lot of secutiry guys wandering around the place, and maintaining it.

Jest to drugie miejsce w Londynie pełne drapaczy chmur, chociaż o wiele mniejsze. Lecz, Canary Wharf jest naprawdę godne zobaczenia nie tylko ze względu na budynki ale też poprzez fakt, że jest to dok. Bardzo popularny i uporządkowany dok, i pisząc uporządkowany naprawdę mam to na myśli. Całe miejsce jest prywatne więc jest czyszczone z dużą dokładnością przez cały czas. I pomimo faktu, że jest to dość brutalne do napisania, ale nie zobaczycie tam również bezdomnych ze względu na czystość… Dlatego jest tam sporo przechadzających się ochroniarzy którzy dbają o porządek tego miejsca.

4. Parks

Surprisingly London has long list of green places and parks. Especially parks are worth seeing here. Almost each of them is enormous and absolutely beautiful. Hard to believe that you’re in the middle of the city while chilling there. Unfortunately for me I only was in Hyde Park, when it comes to huge parks, yet it did impress me a lot. It’s perfect way to escape from the city rush, when tired or just go and relax during hot and sunny days.

Parki. Zaskakująco Londyn ma długą listę zielonych miejsc i parków. szczególnie parki są warte zobaczenia. Prawie każdy jest ogromny i absolutnie piękny. Ciężko uwierzyć, ze jest się wciąż w środku wielkiego miasta podczas chillowania w parku. Niestety, ja byłam tylko w Hyde Park (jeśli chodzi o duże parki), ale zaimponował mi. Jest to również idealna forma ucieczki od miasta, kiedy jest się zmęczonym ciągłym pośpiechem, lub żeby po prostu tam pójść i zrelaksować się w ciepłe i słoneczne dni.

5. Royal Albert Hall

Located right next to Hyde Park. If you’re music fan – try to get ticket on some concert. Royal Albert Hall is absolutely stunning from outside and inside with its details but listening to the concert in there is one of  the best music experiences you will get. Especially when it’s movie-with-live-music kind of concert.

Tuż obok Hyde Park. Jeśli jesteś muzycznym fanem spróbuj zdobyć bilet na koncert. Royal Albert Hall jest absolutnie zachwycający z zewnątrz i w srodku ze swoimi detalami, ale to słuchanie koncertu tutaj jest jednym z najlepszych muzycznych przeżyć jakie doświadczysz. Szczególnie jeśli jest to film z muzyką na żywo.

6. Of course Parliament, Big Ben and London Eye

Parliament is a symbol of London right now, so it’s obvious to see it. Personally, apart from Shard, it’s my favorite building in London, because of it’s terrific neo-gothic style. Breathtaking details and size of the building are so amazing that it’s almost scary.

Parlament jest symbolem Londynu, więc jest to oczywiste miejsce do zobaczenia. Osobiście uważam to za najlepszy budynek tutaj (oprócz Shardu), ze względu na zachwycający neogotycki styl. Zapierające dech w piersiach detale i rozmiar budynku są tak niesamowite, że trochę strach.

7. Markets

Weekend markets, permament markets, food markets, clothing markets, antiques markets, pub/bar markets… Wide range of choice. There is not best market – there are just markets responding to your particular mood and desires. Borough Market, right next to London Bridge is amazing place to try food from across the world. Market on Liverpool Street is perfect for buying old things, or vintage clothes. Visiting Box Park or Brixton is good choice to try craft beer, cider etc. Although Brixton market is also rich in stalls full of vegetables and fruits. But the most stunning market of all is mentioned in the next point…

Targi. Weekendowe, stałe, z jedzeniem, z ubraniem, antykami, pubowe/barowe…szeroki wybór. Nie ma najlepszego targu – są tylko takie, które aktualnie odpowiadają twojemu humorowi i potrzebom. Borough Market, tuż przy London Bridge, jest niesamowitym miejscem do spróbowania jedzenia z całego świata. Targ przy Liverpool Street jest idealny do kupienia starych rzeczy lub vintage’owych ciuchów. Wizyta w Box Parku lub Brixton okazuje się perfekcyjna do spróbowania craftowego piwa lub cydru. Chociaż Brixton Market jest bogaty również w stoiska pełne warzyw i owoców. Ale najbardziej zachwycający targ w następnym punkcie…

8. Camden Town

I would like to say that this is the best place in London, in my very honest opinion. Not for everyone, of course. Camden is known from its chill and alternative atmosphere. Even the streets are like taken from different world, because of street art and distinctive signboards.

But the best? Camden Market. I believe it’s one of the biggest markets, if not the biggest one in London. It’s situated on the place where the horse stalls were a long time ago, that’s why you’ll find a lot of horse sculptures around the place. Trust me – it’s ENORMOUS and absolutely amazing. The rule is simple – if you need something, even something totally weird and out of this planet – I’m sure you’ll find it in there. And food, oh dude food…

Pragnę powiedzieć, że jest to najlepsze miejsce w Londynie, według mojej szczerej opinii. Nie dla wszystkich oczywiście. Camden jest znane ze swojej chillowej i alternatywnej atmosfery. Nawet ulice są jak gdyby wzięte z innego świata, ze względu na street art i wyróżniające się szyldy sklepów. Ale najlepsze? Camden Market. Wierzę, że jest to jeden z największych, jak nie największy, targ w Londynie. Jest umiejscowiony na dawnej stadninie koni, dlatego jest tam mnóstwo rzeźb z końmi. Uwierzcie mi – jest OGROMNY i absolutnie niesamowity. Zasada jest prosta – jeśli czegoś potrzebujesz, nawet najbardziej dziwną rzecz, nie z tego świata, jestem pewna, ze znajdziesz ją właśnie tam. A jedzenie, o człowieku, jedzenie…

9. Soho and China Town

Like Camden has its completely different world, the same thing is with Soho. It’s more popular place to visit because it’s located very close to Trafalgar Square. Soho has its wonderful atmosphere, it’s definitely more elegant but party. Lot of beautiful buildings and lights…and Lego world next to M&M’s world.

But what is really worth seeing there is China Town. Maybe it’s not very big but still impressive with all these Asian restaurants and pubs, shops and even names of the streets written in Chinese.

Tak, jak Camden ma swój kompletnie inny świat, tak samo Soho posiada swój. Jest to bardziej popularne miejsce do zwiedzenia, ze względu na swoją lokalizację – blisko Trafalgar Square. Soho ma tą swoją cudowną atmosferę, jest zdecydowanie bardziej eleganckie ale i imprezowe. Mnóstwo pięknych budynków i świateł…oraz świat Lego i M&M’s.
Co jest jednak najlepsze tutaj, to China Town. Może nie jest zbyt wielkie, ale wciąż wywiera wrażenie wraz ze wszystkimi azjatyckimi restauracjami, pubami, barami, sklepikami i nazwami ulic napisanymi po chińsku.

10. Thames

In the end, walk along Thames which I truly recommend doing especially in the evening when London shines with its thousands lights.

Tamiza. Na sam koniec, spacer wzdłuż Tamizy, który prawdziwie polecam, szczególnie wieczorem, kiedy Londyn zaczyna świecić tysiącem świateł.

If I haven’t written about some place – it’s probably because I haven’t seen it yet. But even though London is massive place, so if I wanted to write about everything that’s amazing there, this post would have to be 10 pages long. But there will be more posts about London, as I’m quite often in here, due to the fact that I’m living very close. All in all, it’s more fun if you explore the city on your own as well. The one rule of London is that it’s never boring, and there’s always something going on. Definitely it’s somewhere in the top on my list of the cities.

~Jeśli nie napisałam o jakimś miejscu, prawdopodobnie dlatego, ze jeszcze mnie tam nie było. Ale nawet jeżeli bym chciała powiedzieć o wszystkim, o czym chcę, a co jest wspaniałe w tym mieście, ten post miałby co najmniej 10 stron. Na pewno będzie więcej postów o Londynie – jestem tu dość często, ponieważ mieszkam blisko. W każdym razie, więcej zabawy jest w odkrywaniu miasta też na własną rękę, co polecam. Jedyną zasadą Londynu jest to, że nie jest nigdy nudny i zawsze coś tu się dzieje. Zdecydowanie jest w mojej topce na liście ulubionych miast.
